The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) turns 50 in 2013. To commemorate this significant anniversary, the University held the 'CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony‧Walkathon and Carnival' on 27 January, initiating an exciting assortment of programmes spanning the whole year.

The kick-off ceremony was followed by the walkathon that took place at Lingnan Stadium on Chung Chi campus, with the aim of raising funds for the I‧CARE progarmme. It was the first university-wide celebration activity of CUHK's 50th anniversary and has received full support from the CUHK Convocation. There were over thirty teams with about 3,000 walkers from colleges, faculties, alumni, sponsors and friends of CUHK participating in the event. Starting from the Lingnan Stadium, walkers could choose between a 3 km (approximately 1 hour) route and a 6.5 km (approximately 2.5 hour) route. Those who took the short route reached the main campus and returned, while the others who walked round the campus enjoyed scenic views of Tolo Harbour and Pat Sin Leng on the way to the finish line. They competed for awards to encourage the greatest number of participants and the best fundraiser. The awards will be announced in March. Close to HK$2.5 million has been raised during this event.

The year 2013 marks the Golden Jubilee of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). There are a series of celebratory events to be held throughout the year. The CUHK 50th Anniversary Kick-off Ceremony．Walkathon and Carnival will be held on Sunday, 27 January 2013. Staff, students, alumni and friends of the Chinese University are cordially invited to this event.

The Chinese University has a strong commitment to nurturing young people who are international in outlook, learned in the disciplines they follow, upright in character, and committed to serving the community. The University's I．CARE Programme was launched in September 2011 and is aimed at strengthening students' holistic development through social and civic engagements in Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas countries. In this Walkathon, all money raised will be used to support the I．CARE Programme.

The Chinese University has launched CU50．Care Campaign in which our staff, students and alumni pledged to carry out 50 community service projects throughout 2013. In this upcoming Walkathon, in addition to money, the Chinese University would like to appeal to participants to pledge hours of voluntary service to the community in 2013. This is the first ever Walkathon that raises service hours for our community besides being a meaningful fundraising exercise.

The 8th CUHK Golf Day was held on Friday, 9 November 2012. Over 100 alumni and friends of CUHK enjoyed a fun day in Vijay Course of Shenzhen Mission Hills Golf Club. This annual event successfully brought nearly 1.2 million dollars of donation to enhance the quality of education CUHK provides to the students.

Officiated at the Tee-off Ceremony were Professor Michael Hui, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of CUHK, Mr Stewart Cheng, Honorary Co-chairman of Organising Committee of CUHK Golf Day 2012, Mr David York, Chairman of Dragon Crowd Enterprise (China) Limited, Honorary Co-chairman of Organising Committee of CUHK Golf Day 2012, Dr Yeung Ming-biu, Chairman of Oriental Watch Company and Mrs Carol Tsang, Chairlady of Organising Committee of CUHK Golf Day 2012.

Before the 28 teams started their 18-hole tournament in the morning, Professor Hui extended a warm welcome to all participants and thanked the members of organising committee in making the Golf Day a success. He also congratulated CUHK Alumni Golf Association on winning the Champion of the 9th Intervarsity Alumni Golf Competitionn held earlier in October this year.

After a series of exciting and tight competitions on the golf course, Chung Chi College won the Championship of CU Cup while Okia was the winner of the CUHK Team Open - Best Net. The Best Gross Championship of Men’s and Women’s Individual went to Mr Xi Liang and Mrs Carol Tsang from Chung Chi College respectively.

Since 2005, CUHK Golf Day is one of the annual events organised by the Office of Institutional Advancement. All donations received will contribute to the CUHK Golf Day Scholarship of the University and its constituent Colleges to enrich the learning experience of our students.
