(a) having regard to overall University policies on academic development and research, to advise AAPC on the broad outline for using the academic equip ment grant; (b) to make annual equipment fund allocations; (c) to formulate regulations and controls on the use o f the equipment grant; and (d) to monitor the pattern o f equipment grant use and its effective ness, and to report to AAPC thereon. Council Member Honoured Dr. Clark Kerr, longtime member o f the University Council and President Emeritus o f the University of California, was recently honoured by UC Berkeley when a section o f its campus, formerly known as 'Dwight-Derby site' , was renamed ‘Clark Kerr Campus' as a tribute to one o f UC's most distinguished alumni who was also the first Berkeley Chancellor. Clark Kerr Campus is a student housing and recreation complex o f about nineteen hectares, w ith Spanish style buildings and beautiful landscape. It is the home for 750 undergraduate students. Professor C.N, Yang Honoured Professor C.N. Yang, Distinguished Professor-at-Large, was honoured by the award o f a Medal o f Liberty in New York at a ceremony held on 2nd M y . Winners o f the Medal are all famous immigrants who have ties to New York City and were deemed to have made a contribution to America. Professorial Inaugural Lecture Professor Lee Cheuk-yu, Professor o f Biochemistry, delivered his Inaugural Lecture, ‘The Logic o f Life — Diversity and Unity' , on 23rd May, 1986. New Members/Secretary o f Advisory Boards * The following have been invited to be members o f advisory boards o f the University: Mr. Colin Parkes, Principal Assistant Secretary for the Civil Service (Appointments), has succeeded Mrs. lily Yam as a member o f the Appointments Board for a term un til 31st July, 1987. Mr. Henry Boss, representative o f the Hong Kong General Chamber o f Commerce, has succeeded the Hon. T. Clydesdale as a member o f the Advisory Board on Accounting Studies for a term until 29th February, 1988. * Dr. P.S. Chung, Senior Lecturer in Electronics, has been appointed by the Vice-Chancellor as Secre tary o f the Advisory Committee on Electronics from 1st July, 1986 to 31st December, 1987. University Members Serve on Outside Committees (1) The following members o f the University have been appointed/reappointed by His Excellency the Governor to serve on various boards and councils: * Dr. Ho Kam-fai, Director o f the Department o f Extramural Studies, appointed as Vice-Chairman o f the Police Complaints Committee for the period until 31st December, 1987. * Dr. Victor Mok, Senior Lecturer in Economics, appointed to serve on the Chinese Textbooks Com mittee for the period un til 31st March, 1988. * Professor Rance Pui-leung Lee, Professor o f Sociology, appointed as a member o f the Statistics Advisory Board for a term o f two years w ith effect from 1st June , 1986. * Professor Lin Tzong-biau, Professor o f Econ omics, appointed as a member o f the A ir Transport licensing Authority for a term o f two years w ith effect from 15th May, 1986. * Dr. Fong-ching Chen, Director o f the Institute o f Chinese Studies, and Professor David Gwilt, Pro fessor o f Music, appointed as members o f the Council o f the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for a period o f two years w ith effect from 1st July, 1986. * Professor G.H. Choa, Professor o f Adminis trative Medicine, who served on the Medical Develop ment Advisory Committee in his capacity as Dean o f Medicine o f the University un til the end o f June 1986 , reappointed to continue to serve on the Committee in a personal capacity for a further term o f two years w ith effect from 1st July, 1986. (2) The following members have been nominated by the University to serve on outside committees: * Professor Joseph C.K. Lee, Professor o f Morbid Anatomy and Dean o f Medicine, to represent the University on the Hong Kong Medical Council for the unexpired term o f membership o f Professor G.H. Choa from 1st July, 1986 to 30th September, 1988. * Professor Yeung Yue-man, the Registrar, to extend his term o f office as a member o f the Hong Kong Examinations Authority un til 31st July, 1987. * Professor Leonard Minkes, Visiting Professor o f General Business Management and Personnel Manage ment, and Dr. Alfred F.M. Leung, Senior Lecturer in Physics, as representatives o f the University to serve on the Commonwealth Scholarships Selection Com mittee for the 1987-88 Awards. * Professor Joseph C.K.
