Prof. W o n g has a d e e p a p p r e c i a t i o n f o r t h e college s y s t em w h i c h is e v i d e n t w h e n he says , ‘ T h e l i m i t a t i o n o f T h e C h i n e s e U n i v e r s i t y 's colleg e s y s t em is t h at s t u d e n t s i n the f o u r colleges are al l u n d e r g r a d u a t e s. I n recent years , the n u m b e r o f p o s t g r a d u a te s t u d e n ts has been r a p i d l y g r o w i n g, b u t after g r a d u a t i o n , t h e y are scattered all o v er th e place. Th i s is a p i t y f o r t he U n i v e r s i t y . A l s o , w h e n t h e t h r e e- y e a r s y s t e m r e v e r t s t o f o u r y e a r s , t he n u m b e r o f u n d e r g r a d u a t e s w i l l increase b y 33 per cent a n d college facilities w i l l feel the strain. The U n i v e r s i t y needs to p a y attention t o these issues a n d seek a n e a r ly s o l u t i o n . In December 1976, a new university ordinance was passed, revising the constitutiona l arrangements governing the University and the colleges. Under the new circumstances, New Asia pursued a 'student-orientated' educational vision tha t aims to shape both character and ability through general education, academic lectures, publications and cultura l activities, producing graduates who will contribute to both society and to the wider world.
