P r o f e s s o r i al A p p o i n t m e n t Prof. James A . D i c k i n s o n was a p p o i n t e d professor of f a m i l y m e d i c i n e o n 1 7 t h No v emb er 1997. Prof. Dickinso n studied me d i c i ne i n A u s t r a l ia a n d obtained hi s M B BS f r o m the Un i v e r s i ty of Queensland i n 1973. H e p u r s u e d doctoral studies i n preventive activitie s i n g e n e r al p r a c t i c e at the U n i v e r s i ty of Newcastle and was awa r d e d a Ph.D. i n 1989. Prior to joinin g The Chinese University, Prof. Dickinson was professor of general practic e at Fremantle Ho s p i t al of the Un i v e r s i ty of Western Australia. H i s research i n t e r e s ts i n c l u d e prevention and screening, especially o f cancer, and the role of p r i ma ry medical car e i n health care organization policy. To c o mm e m o r a t e its 1 0 th a n n i v e r s a r y, t h e c o l l e g e published an a l b um entitled Shaw College — The First Ten Years a n d h e l d v a r i o u s c e l e b r a t i o n a c t i v i t i es i n January 1998, i n c l u d i n g a dinner, a football match and f u n fai r day, a Founder's Da y assembly, Tolo Lyric s — a concert of Cantonese operatic songs, as w e l l as the Thousan d People's Feast and a variety s h ow organized b y students of the college. Lion danceat theanniversary dinner O n 21st Ma r ch 1998, Studen t Hostel 1 of Shaw College wa s officially n amed Gu o M a o H a l l i n m e m o r y o f the late M r . Lee G u o w ei a nd M r . Lee M o u , founders of the K o w l o on Textile Industry, a n d i n recognition of the Lee family's suppor t to the college. The Lee Sh i l un f am i l y recently donate d HK$ 1 0 m i l l i o n and a u n it i n a factory b u i l d i ng t o Shaw College.
