Kao, former Vice-Chancellor of CUHK from 1987 to 1996, receiving the 2009 Nobel Prize in Physics thrilled the Hong Kong community. All CUHK members felt privileged to share in the joy and honour. Later that night, Prof. Lawrence J. Lau, CUHK Vice-Chancellor, issued an open letter to members of the University, recapping the good news and extending our heartfelt congratulations to Professor Kao on behalf of the University.
