But there was on ly o ne university: t he University of H o ng Kong w h i ch was using English as its me d i um of instruction. This ma de it extremely hard for g r adua t es of Chinese seconda ry schools t o f u r t her their studies locally. C h u ng Chi College was f o u n d ed in October 1951 by representatives of Protestant churches in H o n g Kong. In 1 9 55 it was f o rma l ly i n c o r p o r a t ed u n d e r an o r d i nance of t he g o v e r nme n t. Seal carving: Tong Kam Tang
