New and Re-elected Faculty Deans • Prof. Paul Lee Siu-nam has been elected Dean of the Faculty of Social Science from 1st August 2005 to 31st July 2008. • Prof. Lee Tien-sheng has been re-elected D e a n o f t he F a c u l t y o f B u s i n e ss Adm i n i s t r a t i on f r om 1st August 2005 to 31st July 2008. Emeritu s Professo r o fSurger y T he University Council has awarded the title of Eme r i t us Professor of Surgery to Prof . A r t h u r K.C. Li w i t h effect f r om 1st August 2005, after his r e t i r eme nt f r om the Un i v e r s i t y, i n r e c o g n i t i o n o f h is o u t s t a n d i ng a c a d em ic achievements and distinguished service to the University. A n exceptional educator and surgeon, Prof . A r t h ur Li joined The Chinese University in 1982 as f o u n d i ng chair of the D e p a r t m e nt o f S u r g e r y . H e w a s twice elected dean of the Medical Faculty. He s e r v ed as vice- c h a n c e l l or o f t he U n i v e r s i t y f r o m Au g u st 1996 to July 2002 a n d l a i d the f o u n d a t i on f or the University's advancement i n the n ew c e n t u r y . Ma j or a c adem i c d e v e l o pme n ts d u r i ng his t e rm i n c l u d e d the establishment of the School of Tourism and Hotel Management, the School of Chinese Medicine, the School of Public Health, the School of Pharmacy, and the Nethersole School of Nursing. In 1996, he was presented the President's Gold Medal of the Roya l College of Surgeons of Ed i nbu r gh . The award was established by the college t o h o n o ur surgeons of i n t e r n a t i o n al distinction. In 2004, Prof. L i was appointed as a r egent o f the college i n r e c o g n i t i on o f his achievements as an i n t e r na t i ona l ly r e n own ed surgeon w i t h an impressive research record and an outstanding contribution t o medical education. Over the years, Prof. Li has held important positions in social service organizations, medical associations, and educational bodies.
