Gifts and Donations The University has recently received from local and overseas individuals and foundations the following gifts and donations in support of its programmes and projects: (1) FromThe American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong HK$16,000 to provide an award for a student of the Three- year MBA Programme in 1993—94. (2) From anonymous donors a further donation of HK$50,000 towards the Chan Sau Lan Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund, which provides an annual scholarship for a business administration student. (3) From AST Asia HK$8,000 annually to provide two scholarships o f $4,000 each for final year students, one each from the Faculty of Business Administration and the Department of Computer Science. (4) From Banca Popolare di Bergamo Lit6,000,000 to provide three scholarships for students who are studying the Italian language to attend a summer course at Istituto Universitario di Bergamo in 1994. (5) From Banque Nationale de Paris HK$6,000 to provide an award for a second year student of the Two-year MBA Programme who will participate in one of its student exchange programmes. (6) From Mr. Chan Ho-fung HK$10,000 annually to provide an award for a second year student of the Two-year MBA Programme to participate in an exchange programme. (7) From Chung Hwa Travel Service HK$80,000 annually to provide four scholarships of $20,000 each for two postgraduate and two undergraduate students. (8) From Citibank, N.A. HK$48,000 to provide two scholarships, one for a Two-year MBA student and the other for an undergraduate in either economics or business administration. (9) From The Incorporated Trustees of Hsin Chong 一 K.N. Godfrey Yeh Education Fund: (a) HK$96,000 to provide 16 bursaries of $6,000 each for needy students; (b) HK$90,000 to sponsorthe student campuswork scheme in 1994-95; and (c) HK$40,000 for setting up a travel loan fund in 1994-95. (10) From Machiavelli Centro di Lingua e Cultura Italiana per Stranieri Lit7,875,000 to provide 25 awards of Lit315,000 each for students who are studying the Italian language to attend a summer course at Machiavelli Centro in Florence in 1994. (11) From Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore Lit13,500,000 to provide 10 awards of Lit1,350,000 each for students who are studying the Italian language to attend an international workshop at Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in the summer of 1994. (12) From Universita per Stranieri at Perugia Lit700,000 to provide an award for a student who is studying the Italian language to attend a summer course atthe Italian University for Foreigners in Perugia in 1994. (13) FromUniversitaper Stranieri di SienaLit600,000 to provide two awards ofLit300,000 each for studentswho are studying the Italian language to attend a summer course at Universita per Stranieri di Siena in 1994. (14) From University Lodge of Hong Kong No.3666, E.C. HK$6,000 to provide two bursaries of $3,000 each. (15) FromYounger Managers' Club HK$16,000 to provide two scholarships for sponsoring second year students of the Two-year MB A Programme to participate in the Club's August 1994 tour to Taiwan and some other major events. (16) From The Federated Teochew Associations of Malaysia HK$20,000 for the publication of the Collected Papers on Chiu Chow Studies undertaken by Drs. Chang Chak-yan Tay Lian-soo of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia- Pacific Studies. (17) From the following donors for the publication oftheCUHK Alumni Magazine: (a) Dr. Ho Tim HK$50,000; (b) Mr. Hung Hon Cheung, George HK$100,000; (c) Thomas H.C. Cheung Foundation Ltd. HK$150,000; and (d) Wei Lun Foundation Ltd. HK$300,000. (18) From Dr. Lim Buan-chay US$4,500 for the publication of the Collected Papers on Chinese Grammar and Rhetoric under the auspices of Ng Tor-Tai Chinese Language Research Centre, Institute of Chinese Studies. (19) From various donors HK$39,000 to sponsor the printing cost of an Art Gallery monograph Seals of Yezhai (冶齋印存). (20) From Armedic Far East Ltd. HK$59,139.60 to support a study on the treatment of overweight/obese patients undertaken by the Department of Medicine. (21) From Asia Foods Ltd. HK$17,500 to support the dieting survey of school children in Beijing undertaken by the Department of Paediatrics. (22) From the following donors to support the heart and hypertension research undertaken by the Department of Medicine: (a) Bakken Research Centre B.V. US$5,000; (b) Mr. Lai To-yeung HK$1,000; (c) Onwel Garment Holdings Ltd. HK$750,000; (d) Messrs. William Sin & So Solicitors & Notaries HK$10,000; and (e) Ting Sie-huong & Hwang Soon-choo HK$5,000. (23) From Boehringer Ingelheim (HK) Ltd. HK$25,000 and 100 packs of actilyse clinical trial samples to support a research project on accelerated re-PA trial in the Chinese in Hong Kong undertaken by the Department of Medicine. (24) From Bristol-Myers Squibb (HK) Ltd.: (a) HK$80,000 to support a pravachol clinical trial in the Cardiac UnitundertakenbytheDepartmentof Medicine; and (b) HK$20,000 to sponsora staffmember ofthe Department of Clinical Oncology to attend the American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting held in USA. (25) FromMr. Chan Yan-phoon HK$20,000 to the Department of Surgery for educational and research purposes. (26) From Chiang Ching Kuo Foundation for International Scholarly Exchange: (a) a further donation of TWD450,000 to support a study in prehistoric culture of coastal southeast China undertaken by Mr. Tang Chung of the Centre for Chinese Archaeology and Art; and Gifts and Donations 37
