His Excellency the Governor and Chancellor of the University, Sir Murray MacLehose, officiated. The Ceremony was attended by Mr. J.M. Addis, British Ambassador to Peking; Dr. th e Hon. Sir Yuet-keung Kan, Chairman of the University Council; Mr. Tsufa Lee, Chairman of the Board of Governors of New Asia College; Dr. the Hon. Sir Sidney Gordon, Member of the University Council; Mr. E.R. Udal, Member of the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee; Mr. S.F. Bailey, Secretary of the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee; the Hon. W. Szeto, University Architect; Dr. Choh-Ming Li, Vice-Chancellor of the University ； Dr. C.T. Yung, President of Chung Chi College; and Mr. T.C. Cheng, President of United College. Other distinguished guests included Government officials of the New Territories, prominent leaders of the community, architects and contractors of the College's new campus. The Ceremony began with an address by Dr. Y.P. Mei, President of New, Asia College, who thanked Sir Murray for officiating at the Ceremony, and the Government and the taxpayers of Hong Kong for their contribution to the building of the campus. He recalled the difficult circumstances under which the College was founded twenty-three years ago. Sir Murray pointed out in his speech that the laying of the foundation stone of New Asia was not only a milestone in the history of the College but also an important stage in the overall development of the University. The Governor expressed the hope that the University would continue to strive for true scholarship and serve the people of Hong Kong. After the speech, Sir Murray laid the Foundation Stone for the Administration Building and a souvenir was presented to him by President Mei. Guests were invited to a reception at the Benjamin Franklin Centre of the University. The single Foundation Stone which was laid in the Administration Building symbolically represents the five buildings of New Asia College, namely, Administration Building, Arts & Commerce Building , Staff/Student
