K. The Leverhulme Trust Fund of the United Kingdom has offered to The Chinese University of Hong Kong a grant of 16,000 ($256,000) to establish an academic interchange programme between The Chinese University and British universities for a period of five years. The offer was accepted by the University Council on November 30. The Leverhulme Trust Fund is a well-known British institution with the purpose of promoting scholarship and research in British universities. This support from a British foundation marks the beginning of developing relations and cooperation between The Chinese University and British universities. " The grant allows the University complete discretion in inviting scholars of any British university to lecture in The Chinese University and in sending our teaching staff to any British university," said the Vice- Chancellor. " The Chinese University has in the past established exchange programmes with many first rate universities in America; the Leverhulme Grant will now enable us to expand our working relations with British universities." UNI VERS I TY DEANS OF FACULT IES In accordance with The Chinese University Ordinance, the teaching staff of the university has for the first time elected a Dean for each of the three Faculties of Arts, Science, and Commerce and Social Science. Since many of the professorships and readerships are yet to be appointed ， the Senate has resolved that the tenure of office for the Deans during this early period of university development will be one year. Professor Tang Chun-i、Dean of Arts Prof. Tang received his B.A. from National Central University in 1932 and then stayed on in his alma mater as Lecturer from 1936-1937. He taught for two years as Lecturer at West China University from 1937-1939. From 1940-1944, he was Associate Professor at National Central University and was then made Professor in 1944. He stayed i n the said university until 1949. In the meantime he also taught at Nanking University and Kiang-nan University as Part-time Professor and Professor, respectively. I n 1949, he came to Hong Kong and joined Ne w Asia College where he held the post of Senior Lecturer until 1964. From 1953-1960, he served as a Part-time Lecturer at the University of Hong Kong. From 1959 to date, he has been serving as Head of the Department of Philosophy & Sociology and Dean of the Faculty of Arts at New Asia College. Since 1939 he has been a member of the Philosophical Association of China. In 1959 and 1964 he was a panel member of East-West Philosophers Conference. In 1964 he was appointed Professor at The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
