About The Event

This activity is supported by “From Valley to Plain”, which is a project under the Countryside Conservation Funding Scheme. Participants will first take minibus to Kai Kuk Shue Ha and stroll along Sha Tau Kok Hoi to Kuk Po while enjoying the appealing scenery of mangrove nearby. They will then walk through Kuk Po River to inland valley and probe into the relationship evolvement of Hakka community who have settled in Kuk Po for more than three hundred years, as well as visit the CUHK Multi-disciplinary Education Research Base nearby to learn about the cultural landscape of Kuk Po from the perspectives of Architecture, Anthropology, Life Science, Geography and Resource Management. In the second part of the event, project teammates of “From Valley to Plain” and volunteers will lead participants to undergo outdoor conservation activities, including cleaning of collapsing houses, coordinating historical antiquities and pruning plants next to the mansion.

Host: Prof. Thomas Chung, School of Architecture (Currently engaged in a historic building restoration project in Mui Tsz Lam and Kuk Po to explore the possibility of a sustainable rural life)
