Prof. Jyh-An LEE’s co-edited book, Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property (Oxford University Press, 2021) has been published. Co-edited with Prof. Reto M. Hilty (Director of the Max Planck Institute for Innovation and Competition [MPI]) and Prof. Kung-Chung Liu (Lee Kong Chian Professor of Law, Singapore Management University [SMU]), the book is originated from a conference co-organised by CUHK LAW, MPI and SMU on 28-29 November 2019. It is the first book to comprehensively analyse various intellectual property (IP) issues concerning the artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

Along with 23 other leading experts from Asia, Europe and North America, CUHK LAW Professors Jyh-An Lee and Eliza Mik contributed the chapters titled “Computer-Generated Works under the CDPA 1988” and “AI as a Legal Person?” respectively to this book. The project is not only an international collaboration but also a collaboration between two faculties at CUHK. Prof. Anthony Man-Cho So, Associate Dean (Student Affairs) of CUHK’s Faculty of Engineering, contributed a chapter on “Technical Elements of Machine Learning for Intellectual Property Law” and helped other contributors correctly understand the technical elements of machine learning relevant to IP law.
