The first Asia Pacific F root server attached to HKIX

The Internet Software Consortium (ISC) runs F.ROOT-SERVERS.NET, one
of the 13 root nameservers on the Internet which form the basis of
the global distributed DNS database. In conjunction with APNIC, the
ISC has begun to deploy additional F root servers in the Asia
Pacific region, each intended to provide additional root server
availability to a local community of operators.

The benefits of having access to a local root nameserver include
improved response time for DNS resolvers when they need to reach the
root nameservers, and enhanced availability of the DNS system as a
whole.

The first Asia Pacific F root server to go live will be served from
the CUHK, directly attached to the HKIX. Equipment is already
installed, and the F root node will go into production in the next
week.

Local operators can obtain access to the local Hong Kong root server
by setting up peering sessions with the ISC routers at the HKIX. For
