About

Dr. Wing Cheung Mak (Martin) received his Docent in Applied Physics at Linköping University (2017), Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering (2004), and B.Sc. degree in Chemistry (2000) both at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. After completing his Ph.D., he started his independent research as a Research Fellow at the National University of Singapore in 2005-2008. During his academic career, he received several international awards from Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), Boehringer Ingelheim Fonds (FIB) and Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) as visiting researcher at the Universität Potsdam and Charité-Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Germany. He is actively involved in transferring academic research to industrial applications. He served as the Assistant Technical Manager at the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute Limited in 2011-2012. He moved to the Linköping University in 2012 leading a research group on biosensor technologies and became an Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, and Head of the Biosensors and Bioelectronics Unit in 2017. His research activities are focused on biosensors and bioelectronics, advanced transducer materials, wearable, and epidermal biosensors, membrane/paper-based analytical devices. He has a strong interest in advanced material design and innovative fabrication technologies such as printing and additive manufacturing of bioelectrodes, microfluidic biosensors, and organic bioelectronics towards the development of new generation of personalised and wearable biosensors and theranostic devices for the management of metabolic disorders, rapid screening of genetic and immune diseases and fitness monitoring for sustainable health. He has authored over 70 scientific research articles covering the fields of biosensors, bioelectronics, analytical chemistry, materials science, and biomedical engineering. His research achievements are recognised internationally and he led his research team won several prestigious awards at the top international conferences including the Best Paper Award at the World Congress of Biosensors 2018 in Miami and the Poster Award at the IVC-21 conference 2019 in Malmö. He is well connected to the international biosensing academic community and had presented two keynote speeches and several invited talks in leading international biosensor conferences. In Dec 2021, he joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the Chinese University of Hong Kong as an Associate Professor.
