This course aims to provide students a basic foundation of knowledge related to local, national and international policy and social welfare practices in child welfare settings. It will explore the historical, socio-political, philosophical, and value bases of contemporary practices in child welfare. Special attention will be put on the importance of evidence-based practice in policy formulation and service development in child welfare context. The needs and the current intervention approaches of special populations in the child welfare system will be examined. Student will also acquire basic knowledge, skills and attitudes needed when addressing child abuse and neglect.
