Seminar on “Research on Children with Autism in a Multidisciplinary Context”

Jointly supported by Beijing-Hong Kong Universities Alliance, Department of Social Work, CUHK, and School of Sociology and Population Studies of the Renmin University of China, the monthly online seminar of Mainland-Hong Kong Multidisciplinary Disability Research Network was successfully organized on 15 January 2022 (Saturday) on Zoom.

Prof. HU Xiaoyi from the Faculty of Education, Beijing Normal University, was invited to conduct a research seminar on the topic of “Research on Children with Autism in a Multidisciplinary Context”. In the seminar, Prof. HU shared the contemporary trends of research on children with autism from the perspectives of Sociology, Public Services, Medicine, Neuroscience, Psychology, and Special Education. The seminar also discussed this group of children’s current situation in China through the lens of educational research.

There were 68 participants, including students coming from CUHK and other universities, researchers, and practitioners of relevant backgrounds who attended this seminar. All in all, this seminar not only improved the participants’ understanding of the current situation of the children with autism in China but also provided the participants with an overview of this issue from the perspectives of different research disciplines.
