CUHK Chung Chi College Celebrates its 65th Anniversary Chung Chi College

In celebration of its 65th anniversary, Chung Chi College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) staged a series of celebration events on the 28th October, 2016, Founders’ Day of the College.

 

The celebration day began with “Dr. Philip Shen’s Bronze Bust Unveiling Ceremony cum the Naming of Shen’s General Education Resource Centre”. The College was honored to have Dr. Kish Shen and Mr. Kairos Shen, beloved sons of Dr. Philip Shen, to came back from overseas to attend the ceremony. Professor Cheung Chan Fai, Senior College Tutor of the College, shared his joyful memories with Dr. Philip Shen in his speech.

 

It was then followed by “Thanksgiving Service in celebration of the 65th Founders’ Day of Chung Chi College and the Installation Ceremony of the College Head, Professor Fong Wing Ping”. The Installation Ceremony was officiated by Mr. Li Kwok Sing Aubrey, Chairman of the College Board of Trustees. In Professor Fong’s inaugural address, he thanked for the opportunities and insight given by former Heads of Chung Chi College in previous years. He endeavored to continue the good work and strive for greater success. Mr. Chan Shu Wai Jimmy, Chairman of the College Alumni Association presented a gift to the alma mater.

 

“Opening Ceremony of the Exhibition of Chung Chi College Art Collection” was held in the afternoon at the Lobby Gallery of the College Administration Building. The exhibition showcased the valuable collections donated by various alumni and friends of the College. Highlights include works by established Hong Kong artists Professor Au Ho Nien, Professor Jao Tsung I, Dr. Kan Kit Keung, Mr. Wong Kwan Shut and Mr. Yeung Shan Shen.

 

Thousand People Feast, one of the traditional celebratory events of Chung Chi College, was held in the Lingnan Stadium at night. About 1,500 College members, including staff, students, alumni and friends gathered at the College enjoying the reunion.

Chung Chi College was founded in October 1951 by the representatives of Protestant Churches and was formally incorporated under an ordinance of the Hong Kong Government in 1955. In 1963, the College was incorporated as one of the three founding colleges of CUHK. The College aims to provide higher education in accordance with Christian traditions. It seeks to promote Christian faith, learning and research.
