General Qualifications for Admission

Applicants should fulfil the following requirements for admission:
1. Hold the following degree or academic qualification:
  • graduated from a recognized university and obtained a bachelor’s degree in English or a related field (such as linguistics, literature and translation), normally with honours not lower than Second Class or achieving an average grade of not lower than “B”; or

 

  • completed a course of study in a tertiary educational institution and obtained professional or similar qualifications equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
2. Pass an entrance examination or interview conducted by the Graduate Division of Education, where required; and
3. Fulfil the English language requirements for admission:

 

Applicants with a relevant degree from a university in Hong Kong should fulfil the “English Language Requirements for Admission” as stipulated by the Graduate School.

 

Applicants with a relevant degree from a university outside Hong Kong should meet one of the following requirements:

  • A minimum overall score of 7.0 in IELTS with the writing score not lower than 7.0; OR
  • A minimum score of 94 in TOEFL (Internet-based) with the writing score not lower than 27.

 

Remarks:
TOEFL and IELTS scores are considered valid for two years from the test date. GMAT scores are considered valid for five years from the test date.
