蕭鳳霞
美國史丹福大學博士
美國耶魯大學人類學系教授、東亞研究委員會前任主席

蕭鳳霞教授在香港出生和長大,負笈美國,先在明尼蘇達州的卡爾頓學院本科畢業,後轉至史丹福大學攻讀研究院,獲博士學位。

多 年 以來,蕭教授致力探討南中國的文化、歷史和政治經濟變遷。1974 年開始,她在珠江三角洲一帶村落和市鎮進行廣泛的田野考察,近年,則集中研究香港邁向國際大都會過程中的文化跌宕。除研究外,蕭教授亦積極參與美國及香港專上教育的規劃,她在美國曾擔任多個學術研究撥款委員會成員。在 1992 年至 2001 年間,她被香港政府委任為大學教育資助委員會的海外委員,在大學教育撥款和整體方向上向政府提出意見。在 1996 年和 2001 年間,她亦兼任研究資助局撥款小組委員會委員,該委員會負責審定香港的學術研究質量並提供資助。

蕭教授的專著包括兩部文學選集, 分別是與 Zelda Stern 合編的《毛氏的收成---中國新一代的聲音》(牛津大學出版社,1983 年 )和《犁溝---農民、知識份子和國家》(史丹福大學出版社,1990 年 )。另有歷史著作,如與科大衛合編的《植根鄉土---華南地緣關係》(史丹福大學出版社,1995 年 );及一部根據她在廣東所作田野考察的著述《農村革命的同謀者》(耶魯大學出版社,1989 年 )。此外, 蕭教授與Pamela K. Crossley 及 Donald Sutton 合著的 Empire at the Margins: Culture, Ethnicity and Frontier in Early Modern China,將於 2006 年出版(加州大學出版社)。


Helen Siu

Born in Hong Kong, Helen Siu received her BA. Degree (1972, Sociology and Anthropology) at Carleton College, her M.A. (1974, East Asian Studies) and Ph.D. degrees (1981, Anthropology) at Stanford University.

Since the 1970s, Professor Siu has conducted historical and ethnographic fieldwork in the Pearl River delta of South China, examining rural transformations, the revival of market towns, rituals and festivals. Lately, she turns her attention to urban transformations in Guangzhou and Hong Kong. She is also deeply involved with the development of tertiary education in Asia and research funding in the U. S. In Hong Kong, she served as an overseas member of the University Grants Committee (1992-2001) and the Research Grants Council (1996-2001). In the U.S. she was a member of the Committee for Advanced Study in China and of the National Screening Committee for Fulbright awards (China).

Professor Siu's publications include two volumes on Chinese literature (Mao's Harvest: Voices of China's New Generation, co-editor Zelda Stern, Oxford 1983; Furrows: Peasants, Intellectuals and the State, Stanford 1990), one volume on history (Down to Earth: The Territorial Bond in South China, co-editor David Faure, Stanford 1995), and a monograph in anthropology (Agents and Victims in South China: Accomplices in Rural Revolution, Yale 1989). A forthcoming volume is entitled Empire at the Margins: Culture, Ethnicity and Frontier in Early Modern China (co-editors Pamela K. Crossley and Donald Sutton, California 2006).

高家龍教授於 1962 年大學畢業後,來到香港中文大學新亞書院教授英語。他對中國歷史的興趣,便源自他在香港生活的這段時期。

高教授在中國近代經濟和商業、中國企業史、中美商貿關係有廣泛著述。他編著的作品包括One Day in China: May 21, 1936(1983 年出版)、(編)Inventing Nanjing Road: Commercial Culture in Shanghai, 1900-1945(1999 年出版)、《中國的大企業:煙草工業中的中外競爭(1890-1930)》(2001 年 第1版;英文原著Big Business in China: Sino-Foreign Rivalry in Cigarette Industry, 1890-1930,於 1980 年出版。)、《大公司與關係網:中國境內的西方、日本和華商大企業(1880-1937)》(2002 年 第1版;英文原著Encountering Chinese Networks: Western, Japanese, and Chinese Corporations in China, 1880-1937,於 2000 年出版),以及Chinese Medicine Men: Consumer Culture in China and Southeast Asia(出版中)等。他新近出版的著作提出了一些重要學術觀點,其中關於外國投資家到中國面臨社會等級制和人際關係網挑戰的觀點,被認為是對中國經商特點及其規律探索的重要成果。

現 時 ,高教授的主要研究項目是 "A Chinese Family in War and Revolution: The Lius of Shanghai, China, and the World, 1910-1956"。

Sherman Cochran

Prof. Cochran became interested in Chinese history when he lived in Hong Kong immediately after graduating from college in 1962. At the time, he was teaching English under the Yale-China Programme at New Asia College, The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Prof. Cochran has written and edited extensively on topics in Chinese business and Sino-U.S. business relations. His book publications include Big Business in China: Sino-Foreign Rivalry in Cigarette Industry, 1890-1930 (published in 1980; Chinese edition was published in 2001), One Day In China, May 21, 1936 (published in 1983), Inventing Nanjing Road: Commercial Culture in Shanghai, 1900-1945 (editor, published in 1999), Encountering Chinese Networks: Western, Japanese, and Chinese Corporation in China, 1880-1937 (published in 2000; Chinese edition was published in 2002), and Chinese Medicine Men: Consumer Culture in China and Southeast Asia (in press). His recent publications called into question the ideas of the challenges of Chinese social networks facing the foreign investors in China. His ideas and findings are the most important studies on Chinese businesses.

Prof. Cochran is currently undertaking a research project "A Chinese Family in War and Revolution: The Lius of Shanghai, China, and the World, 1910-1956".

張忠民
上海社會科學院博士

張忠民教授生於上海,是浙江寧波人。1985 年,張教授在上海復旦大學經濟系畢業,獲經濟學碩士學位。同年進入上海社會科學院經濟研究所至今。

張教授的主要研究領域為明清經濟史、上海經濟發展史、以及近代中國公司制度史。他編著的作品包括《上海:從開發走向開放 1368-1843》(1990 年出版)、《前近代中國社會的商人資本與社會再生產》(1996 年出版)、《(上海)經濟歷史成長》(1999 年出版)、《艱難的變遷――近代中國公司制度研究》(2001 年出版),以及(編)《近代上海城市發展與城市綜合競爭力》(2005 年出版)等。

張教授目前正在進行的研究項目分別是「近代中國國有企業的制度演進及其治理模式」和「清史‧近代工礦志‧工業篇」。

Prof. Zhang Zhongmin

Prof. Zhang Zhongmin was born in Shanghai. He completed his Master's degree at the Department of Economics, Fudan University in 1985. Immediate after graduating from Fudan, Prof. Zhang was admitted to the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS) to continue his doctoral study, and since then he has been staying at SASS.

Prof. Zhang's major research interests include history of the China's economy in Ming and Qing dynasties, history and development of Shanghai's economy and history of the company system in modern China. He has written and edited numerous books and articles including Shanghai Moves Towards the Opening from the Development: 1368-1843 (published in 1990), Usury and Society reproduces in Pre-Modern China (Published in 1996), The Historical Growth of Shanghai's Economy (published in 1999), Difficult Vicissitude: Modern Times China Company System Research (published in 2001), and Shanghai's Urban Development and Synthesis Competitive Ability in Modern Times (published in 2005).

Currently, Prof. Zhang is undertaking two major research projects of the development and management of state-owned enterprises in modern China and the industries in Qing China.
