Academic Activities

Recapping the academic seminar “全球史、區域史與歷史人類學” conducted by Prof. ZHAO Shiyu on 7 October 2016

Prof. ZHAO Shiyu of the History Department, Peking University, was invited by the Department to present a lecture to the Department’s postgraduate students.

In the talk, Prof. ZHAO Shiyu reviewed the historical background of the rise of global history and its development. He pointed out that the development of the study of global history has been influenced by studies of anthropology and cultural geography, while the study of regional history or the study of socio-cultural history of a curtain area has worked as the driving force of the rise of global history. Regional history focuses on the connection within a certain space, while global history tries to build connections between different areas. In regional history studies, the approach of historical anthropology can effectively bring researchers into the historical context of people’s lives, and help researchers conceptualise the changing process of structuring.
