Academic Activities
Recapping “The Joseph Needham Symposium on Early Cultural and Scientific Transmission across Eurasia with China” held on 26 –27 March 2018 at Cho Yiu Conference Hall, CUHK
More than 20 scholars from the USA, UK, Singapore, Japan, Mainland China and Hong Kong were invited to present papers or act as moderators in the two-day symposium. Prof. Benjamin W. WAH, Provost and Wei Lun Professor of Computer Science and Engineering of CUHK, was invited to officiate the opening ceremony and deliver the keynote speech.
The symposium focused on prehistory through the third century of the first millennium, demonstrating the diversity of cultures in China and other parts of Eurasia that was connected by scientific and cultural exchanges. The range of exchanges span from “Agriculture and Crops”, “Archaeology”, “Metallurgy”, “Cultural Transmission” to “Astronomy”. The symposium was satisfactorily concluded subsequent to fruitful exchange among participants.
