Prof. LAI Ming Chiu, Department Chairman, will be on academic leave from 9 to 12 October 2017. During his absence, Prof. HO Pui Yin will serve as the Acting Chair.
Prof. POO Mu-chou illustrated the significance and method of comparative history in research, and clarified some principles of religious studies. During the seminar, he demonstrated the use of comparative studies by comparing the Ushabtis, funerary figurines used in Ancient Egyptian, with the Han lead tomb figures (Qianren鉛人), in order to show the similarity of the usage of funerary figurines, and the differences between ancient Chinese society and Egyptian society in terms of their views of afterlife.
