Academic Activities

Recapping the academic seminar “徽州模式?對於徽州區域歷史的思考” conducted by Prof. PUK Wing Kin on 23 September 2016

In a review and rethinking of Huizhou studies, Prof. PUK Wing Kin pointed out that even with abundant documents, it is still a challenge for scholars of regional studies to build up comprehensive understandings of Ming-Qing China through observing a constructed, multi-layered and changing region. Current studies show that Huizhou shared some similarities with Southern China on the development of lineage and the business strategy of merchants during Ming-Qing period. Similar to other regional studies, lineage, local religion and taxes and the corvée system are key elements in Huizhou studies.
