Public Engagement

To deepen students’ understanding of our Department and to stimulate their interest in chemistry, we warmly welcome secondary school students and teachers to visit our Department. The visiting programme generally consists of popular science lectures or an admission talk and departmental tour.

The Department of Chemistry has been collaborating with BASF, the leading chemical company, to organize the Kids’ Lab program yearly. This program, which has been brought to more than 30 countries across the globe, aims to nurture children's interest in chemistry and to help young generation recognize how chemistry around us can help protect the environment, and create a sustainable future.

Kids' Lab

With the belief that students today can become innovators and leaders of tomorrow, the BASF Kids' Lab program is an open, interactive, fun and free chemistry education program designed for kids aged 6 to 12 years to discover the world of chemistry through simple and safe experiments.

Kids' Lab Experiment Challenge

The Experiment Challenge provides an excellent opportunity for young chemists to share interesting experiments with us.

In this program, secondary school students in Hong Kong are invited to develop a new experiment for the Kids’ Lab program. Co-creating in pairs, students are asked to invent a fun experiment that explains the world of science to kids from 6 to 12 years. Those groups which are shortlisted will be invited to the Chinese University of Hong Kong to present their ideas and demonstrate the role of chemistry in sustainability.
