Target: PHY undergraduate in the year 2010-2011
Activity type: Internship
Aim: To let you acquire essential practical experience in teaching Secondary School Physics curriculum and/or general Physics knowledge, which is invaluable to your teaching career. You will also learn how to act precisely, present clearly and think thoroughly through teaching the secondary school students and/or the general public.
Important dates:
Briefing Session: 19 March, 2010 (Friday)
at SC L4
Deadline of application: 26 March, 2010 (Friday)
Interview with shortlisted applicants: 2 April, 2010 (Friday)
Results released: Early April, 2010
Training program: Mid April, 2010
Internship period: Early May to Mid August, 2010
Duties :
1. To prepare teaching materials
2. To help lead the tutorials
3. To assist in classroom teaching
4. To give an oral report in Stage 4 concluding seminar/ experience-sharing session
Award: Each participant will be awarded a certificate of completion and a scholarship of $8,000 after completing the whole stage 3.
Eligibility:
1. a PHY undergraduate in the year 2010-2011
2. have a good academic record
3. interested in a teaching career
We look for motivated students who have a solid physics background, who are independent, creative, and get along well with others.
Responsibilities:
1. Successful applicants have to complete a training program before working in secondary schools. Poor performance in the program may lead to his/her disqualification.
2. Unless given approval, participants cannot withdraw from the programme.

A: This is up to your potential final-year project supervisor. It is your responsibility to tell your potential supervisor that you plan to take up this internship. You may have to make a choice between this program and a final-year project.
Q: What is the training program about?
A: Participants will be asked to attend talks given by previous apprentices and experienced teachers, and to prepare course materials.
