1. Course Description
  • This 1-unit lab course is compulsory for year-3 undergraduate students.
    It is offered in 1st term and 2nd term.


  • Students are required to finish a short experimental project independently,
    which illustrates modern physics and/or experimental technique.

  • For each project, a student should plan to work in the lab for about 5 afternoons.


  • Through project learning, students are expected to pick up skills related to:
    Independent learning
    Reading skill (to read some references at the beginning),
    Time-management skill (keep track of the progress in taking data),
    Honesty (honest to the data taken),
    Data analysis,
    Drawing conclusions from data,
    Communication skills (scientific writing or/and oral reporting).

  • Prerequisite:
    Students are advised to take both PHYS1712 and 2711 before taking this course.
    Special cases will need permission of the instructor.
