The 2nd Retreat of the Max Planck-GIBH Centre for Regenerative Biomedicine and CUHK-MPI-GIBH Joint Symposium on Stem Cell and Molecular Medicine was successfully held at the School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS), The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), during 8-10 October 2018.
The opening remarks was given by Prof. Chan Wai-yee, Director of SBS, followed by welcoming addresses from Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, Ms. Gong Haihua, Chief of Division of European Affairs, Bureau of International Cooperation, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and Prof. Schöler Hans, Director of Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine (MPI-MB), respectively. Sixteen delegates from the Max Planck Institutes, 20 delegates from the Guangzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health (GIBH), CAS, Principal Investigators from SBS and the Institute for Tissue Engineering & Regenerative Medicine (iTERM), CUHK as well as academics from The University of Hong Kong and The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology participated in the event, and shared and exchanged their research findings and experiences in the areas of stem cell, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine.
Before the start of sharing sessions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony between SBS, MPI-MB and the Max Planck Institute for Heart and Lung Research (MPI-HLR) was conducted. Under the witness of Prof. Rocky Tuan, Ms. Gong Haihua, Mr. David Schmidt, Deputy Consul General, German Consulate General Hong Kong, representatives of the respective signing parties including Prof. Schöler Hans, Prof. Chan Wai-yee and Prof. Thomas Braun, Co-Director of MPI-HLR signed the MoU. The signing of the MoU not only formed a sound foundation for pursuing academic and research collaborations with the two signing parties in the near future, but also signified an extension of the long term partnership between SBS and GIBH, CAS.
