• This is the ethics of research
• Respect the author by giving credit to the sources you used to write your paper
• Referencing the source of materials you have used or referred to allows readers to locate the original works easily and thus they can trace your chain of ideas

• Making references - citations for the materials that you have used or referred to
• Citations can be found in the text or at the end of the work in a bibliography or reference list
• Otherwise you are plagiarizing

• An ethical issue
