Workshops

The Library regularly offers 3D Printing workshops to provide a basic understanding of 3D Printing technologies and hands-on exercise to create 3D objects using simple 3D modelling software.  Stayed tuned.

Get Started with 3D Printing and Application Software

Are you interested in 3D printing but have no experience? The workshop provides a basic understanding of 3D printing technologies and walks through some basic 3D modelling. Through hands-on exercises, you will experience how to make your own 3D objects using Tinkercad software.

3D Printing, Scanning and Modelling Techniques

Introduces basic techniques of creating 3D models for 3D printing. Participants may have a chance to build their own figurines by using Blender (open source 3D creation software), and the Structure Sensor 3D scanner.

Here are the past workshops and talks offered to CUHK students, staff and faculty.

Workshop Series for 3D Print Week

The awareness and popularity of 3D technologies are breaking down the barriers between design concept and manufacturing.  This workshop series provided a basic understanding and ideas of how to design, create and print 3D models.

A. Ideation: Design Thinking
1. Introduction to the latest 3D scanner technologies and its applications (5 Oct 2015)

The talk introduces the applications of the latest 3D scanning technology to educators, so that they can establish innovative teaching methods and content to enhance their students' ability to use the manufacturing technologies.

B. Innovation: Creating 3D Models
2. Discovery 3D printing resources online (6 Oct 2015)

The workshop introduces how to use online 3D application software to create 3D models.  Participants may have hands-on experience to design and print your own 3D name tags.

3. Application of 3D printing in Art (6 Oct 2015)

The core idea of 3d printing is to print things layer by layer, have you ever thought about how 3d printing can be applied to 2D arts and transform it into a 3D masterpiece?

C. Implementation: 3D Printing In Action
4. Get started with 3D printing, scanning and modeling techniques workshop (7 Oct 2015)

The workshop introduces basic techniques of creating 3D models for 3D printing.  Participants may have a chance to build their own figurines by using Blender, a free and open source 3D creation software, and the Structure Sensor 3D scanner.

5. Applying 3D printing in various walks of life (7 Oct 2015)

With continuous advancement of 3D printing materials and technologies, 3D printing is becoming a popular application in all walks of life.  The market has a great vision in 3D printing, its applications include transportation, medical, dental, construction, education and design industries.
