Michael H. Lee, a Lecturer in the Department of History of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, has been researching in the area of educational history, development and policy in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore in tandem with these courses on Southeast Asian studies being offered: History of Singapore, The Making of Modern Singapore, History of Modern Southeast Asia,  History of Modern Malaysia, Chinese Diaspora, and Chinese Education in Singapore and Malaysia in the Twentieth Century. Some of his articles were published in internationally peer-reviewed journals such as Asia Pacific Education Review, Asia Pacific Journal of Education, Australian Journal of Education, Education and Society, Higher Education Policy, Higher Education Research and Development, International Higher Education, Journal of Asian Public Policy, KEDI Journal of Educational Policy, Journal of Higher Education Policy and Management, and Policy Futures in Education; as well as book chapters published in Changing Governance and Public Policy in East Asia, Crossing Borders in East Asian Higher Education, Education and the Nation State: the Selected Works of S. Gopinathan, Globalization and Higher Education in India, Globalization and the Singapore Curriculum: From Policy to Classroom, International Handbook on Globalization, Education and Policy Research, and The Changing Academic Profession in Hong Kong. He also co-edited Making Sense of Education in Post-Handover Hong Kong, which was published by Routledge (Taylor & Francis Group).
