UM Students Doing Research In Hong Kong

For the third year in a row, we had the pleasure of welcoming master’s students from Maastricht University, as they attached to our Faculty of Medicine at CUHK to work on vaccine research studies. Students Romén Rivero and Sandra Dang spent 3 months with us to fully experience living and studying in Hong Kong.
 
Under the guidance and supervision of Prof Tony Nelson of our Department of Paediatrics, Romén and Sandra researched on flu vaccination for pregnant women and young children in Hong Kong and shared their findings in a recent presentation to our students on the “Feasibility of including influenza vaccines in routine schedules”.
 
“This attachment was a great opportunity as we both have particular interest in public health policies and got to learn more about the local situation and compare the seasonal differences of influenza in Hong Kong with other parts of the world.”

Taking advantage of Hong Kong’s central location in Asia, the students traveled quite a bit to discover nearby places such as Shenzhen, Macau, Korea and Japan. They also took the time to see the city itself, going on hikes, visiting the many outlying islands and tasting the many international cuisines.
 
“We are both first-timers in Hong Kong and we reached out to last year’s exchange students before the trip to get tips. Though it takes some time to adjust to the hot and humid weather here, we had a great time and made lots of friends.”
 
At CUHK, we believe in adopting a global approach in our health education and research and consider such exchanges to be mutually beneficial. We certainly look forward to further strengthening the partnership between our two institutions in the future.
