Biography
Prof. Paul McGuinness is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Finance at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) Business School. Currently, he is also a Professor at the University of Sheffield (UK), holding the position of Chair in Accounting and Finance. Prof. McGuinness was employed for several years as a tenured professor in the Department of Finance at CUHK. During his time at CUHK, he held the position of Department Chairman for two separate terms (August 2000-July 2004 & August 2005-July 2009), as well as Acting Chairman (October 1999-July 2000) prior to the first of these terms. Before joining CUHK, he was a faculty member at the University of Warwick, UK. While on leave from CUHK, Prof. McGuinness held positions as the National Bank Chair of Finance at Victoria University of Wellington (1996), Head of Research at the Securities and Futures Commission (June-December 2000), and Visiting Professor at Macquarie University (February-June 2008). Prof. McGuinness’s research addresses issues in corporate finance, governance and Chinese equity markets. He also has extensive experience in conducting consultancy and executive training on securities market and related issues. Prof. McGuinness has published extensively in international refereed academic journals and is author of A Guide to the Equity Markets of Hong Kong (Oxford University Press, 1999).
