Dear Students,
What is your feeling when you think about December? Some may feel happy as it is a month for fun and celebration, some may feel distress as it is the last month of a year and there are so many goals or tasks that have not been accomplished, whereas some may be worried as it is the time for Term examination. May I invite you to view December as just the last month appears in the calendar? What do you feel now? Do you notice the change of your feeling when you are asked to change the perspective of the same condition or situation?
Our thoughts can trigger emotion and our emotions influence our thinking. Just like the above example, as well as a popular proverbial phase ‘is the glass half empty or half full’. Actually, it is just a half glass of water that we are looking at. You can make it full or empty, or even change the taste of the water as you like. However, difficult emotions will hinder our thinking and our ability to achieve our goal. I would like to share some strategies suggested by Dr. Dennis Trich with you to manage our difficult emotions.
When you are feeling overwhelmed and stressed,
- Please allow yourself to pause. Slow down in this moment.
- Follow your breath and rest.
- Hold yourself in kindness, if even for a moment. No matter how small. It matters. You matter.
You don’t have to feel good to get going, you need to get going to give yourself a chance at feeling good.
