Dear Woo Singers,
Fall is here, and I am so glad the hot days are over. CUHK has a beautiful campus with gorgeous view, especially from our very own LWS. I have always felt fortunate to be working here at CUHK, in the Faculty of Education. This is my fifth year of work at CUHK, and not only do I love the campus, but more importantly its people. Since 2018, I have served as a Deputy Programme Coordinator for B.Ed. in Mathematics and Mathematics Education (BMED), and I am so grateful to have met and interacted with many of our BMED students as well as teaching staff. We have walked through the journey of highs and lows in the last few years. The CUHK/LWS community has supported me so much through these times, and I am always looking to give back to the CUHK/LWS community!
I would like to take this opportunity to share a TedTalk video to our LWS staff and students. The talk is given by a renowned scholar, Dr. Jo Boaler from Stanford University, who suggests that we all can learn maths! The video touches on “the growth mindset” vs. “the fixed mindset” and how we can empowers our students and the people around us through embracing failures. Whether you like maths or not, you will find some of her research results interesting and some surprising facts about learning (e.g. “finger maths”). If you have a chance to watch it, I look forward to chatting with you about it!
Fall is one of my favourite season, but this year, I immensely miss the face-to-face interactions with students. I can’t wait to meet you in person when the pandemic situation improves. By the way, I am a basketball lover and have served as a Honorary Manager for LWS College Women’s Basketball Team! When social distancing measures relax, I would love to play basketball with LWS teachers/students; let’s see if we can create a basketball group and play regularly! See you on the court soon!
