1. Q: How to apply study Visa to Hong Kong?

A: All students who come to study in CLC MUST BE either a resident of Hong Kong, working visa and/ or student visa holder. Holder of tourist visa and/ or visa exemption status is not allowed to study in any institutions in Hong Kong. Application for student visa takes some time to process.

2. Q: Can I work with student visa in Hong Kong?

 

A: According to the immigration policy, student visa holder is not allowed to take up any paid or unpaid job. On the other hand, CLC staff will strictly check on students' attendance. Those with serious absence will result in withdrawal of visa sponsorship by the Center. Their scores and promotion to upper level will be affected too.

3. Q: What time in a year can a student enroll to your program?

A: Enrolment is open all year round. Please mind the study visa application time which usually takes 2 months to process. General admission dates for programmes.

Full time courses

Full time award-bearing programmes: early January, mid-May and early September

Summer School: (S1-2) mid-June (S3) early August

Winter/ Spring intensive courses: (W2-3) early January (W4) late February

 

Part time courses

January, April, July and October

4. Q: I am not a university graduate. Can I apply for CLC’s programs?

A: Yes. You can apply as “special student”. Special conditions apply.

5. Q: My kids are below 18, can they apply for CLC’s programmes?

A: In that case, only seasonal intensive programmes are applicable and prospective students must reach 16 years old. They must have a guardian in Hong Kong and no university lodging will be provided in any circumstances. The parents are required to sign a memorandum regarding the safety of their children.

7. Q: What is the deadline of application?

A: For those who are not Hong Kong residents to allow sufficient time for study visa application, please apply 3 months before programme starts. Otherwise, you can apply one month before programme starts. For native Chinese who want to take Putonghua exam and get CEF subsidy, your application must reached our office at least 2 weeks before programme starts.

8. Q: Is there any discount on enrolment?

A: CLC occasionally conducts special campaign and discount will be offered during the campaign period. Otherwise, there will be no discount in general seasons.

9. Q: What is the purpose of registration fee and deposit? Is it refundable?

A: Registration fee (HK$200-400) is to cover the administration expense involve in application (non-refundable). Deposit has to be paid first and only refunded after course completion.

10. Q: What would be included and not included in the tuition fee paid?

A: Tuition fee is to cover the cost of teaching. Other cost will be involved including textbook (HK$300-400), lodging (HK$3000-$10000 per month), activity fee (HK$100-1000) per school term etc.

11. Q: After I paid the deposit, how can I pay the balance?

A: For administration convenience, it is better for you to pay by cash order than wire transfer. Detail information on regulation and email reminder. Credit card payment will be introduced soon. Please contact CLC staff at clc@cuhk.edu.hk

12. Q: Are CLC programs eligible for “Continuing Education Fund” (CEF)?

A: According to the CEF regulations, students who study language programs have to pass certain examinations in order to get subsidy from CEF. Those examinations are rather difficult for students who study Chinese as a second/ foreign language. For detail please check CEF web site at

For local Chinese who study Putonghua, CLC is offering CEF eligible origrammes. Students can get up to 80% subsidy from CEF provided that pass is obtained in recognized exams. For course details please visit curriculum > Programmes for Chinese
