Title of Thesis:
The effects of Nitrous Oxide on lymphocyte DNA Damage and Surgical Site Infection
Outline of the Thesis:
Background:
Nitrous oxide has been associated with an increased risk of surgical site infection (SSI). Meanwhile, Nitrous oxide induced homocysteine elevation and folate deficiency, which might cause DNA damage and thus immunosuppression, have also been reported. Therefore, we wish to correlate levels of homocysteine and folate, lymphocyte DNA damage and T cell activation with SSI in vitro and in vivo, and finally search the indicators of high-risk patients by SNP analysis.
- The kinetics of intracellular (lymphocytes) and plasma homocysteine and folate levels after nitrous oxide treatment
- Evaluation of lymphocytes DNA damage after nitrous oxide treatment
- The effects of nitrous oxide on T cell activation and clone expansion
- Associations between SNPs in MTHFR and base excision repair genes with SSI
