How to Use the MakerSpace Facilities and Services: 3D Scanners

  1. There is no charge to use 3D scanners provided by the MakerSpace. Users are responsible for any damages of the furniture and equipment in the MakerSpace.
  2. Unless otherwise approved by the University Librarian, the 3D scanners are used by eligible users for educational and non-commercial purposes ONLY.
  3. Users are responsible for any damages to the furniture and equipment in the MakerSpace.
  4. Users should comply with copyright, patent, and other intellectual policy regulations, which do include specific exceptions for fair use. CUHK Library staff reserves the right to refuse any usage request. 

Matter and Form (Self Service)

Description: An easy to use desktop 3D scanner for small and medium objects

Eligible Users: CUHK students and staff, CUHK Library users

You can scan your objects on self-service basis.

Location: at the Self-Service Corner in the MakerSpace, Learning Garden

Scan Accuracy: Within ± 0.1mm

Maximum Object Size & Weight: 25cm (height), 18 cm (diameter), 3kg (Weight)

Optics: HD CMOS sensor, 2x Class 1 eye-safe lasers

Output file format: STL, OBJ, PLY, XYZ

 

 

Go! Scan 3D

Description: A high-performance handheld 3D structured-light scanner. 

Eligible UsersCUHK staff

Structure Sensor

Description: An easy to use handheld 3D scanner. Good for scanning large objects

Eligible UsersCUHK students and staff

Borrowing Method: check out and return at the Learning Garden HelpDesk during 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday. It can be loaned for up to 3 days. (Overdue Fines: HK$10 per day)

Scanning range: 40 cm (min) and 3.5m (max)

Resolution: 640 x 480(VGA) or 320 x 240(QVGA)

Frame-rate: 30 / 60 frames per second

Field of View: Horizontal: 58 degrees, Vertical: 45 degrees
