Vision

CW Chu College of The Chinese University of Hong Kong is established with the vision to be

An intimate community of scholars drawn from diverse backgrounds, engaged with the world in a spirit of curiosity and generosity.

This Vision Statement embraces four elements which distinguish the College and to which we shall devote our efforts:

Intimate   International

The College will be small, and should develop into a closely knit collegiate community.

Members of the College will be drawn from a variety of backgrounds: Hong Kong, the rest of China and beyond. Students will experience cultural diversity first hand and develop cultural sensitivity, as well as a global outlook.

Involved

The community of scholars will approach learning and life in an intellectual way, in a spirit of curiosity and enquiry.   Knowledge will be treasured not only for its own sake, but as the basis for moral action. Members will be engaged  and involved with the wider community in a spirit of generosity towards others, through service and other contributions.

*CW Chu College is very grateful for the support of Chu Scholars (who benefited from the remarkable support of the late Dr CW Chu towards their university studies and are now successful in different trades and professions) to act as mentors for students of the College.

Motto and Emblem

The motto of the College, Cultus et Beneficentia , which loosely translates as cultivating oneself and benefiting the community, and which is echoed by the Chinese motto「修己澤人,儲才濟世」 , speaks eloquently of the mission of the College, namely, that the students therein may receive a holistic education, and through the experience of four years of college life, may broaden their outlook and learn to be responsible and committed members of society. The motto is inscribed in both Latin and Chinese on the College Crest, which shows the name of the College in seal script on a shield.

Two seals incorporating the College Motto in Chinese, presented by the Founding Class.
