CUHK Master Class 2022: Crossing cultural borders
While the pandemic has greatly hampered cross-cultural interactions, we are able to transcend borders and connect and interact with each other despite the physical divide thanks to technology.
Organised by the Office of Academic Links, the CUHK Master Class Series 2022 aims to bring together students and staff members of CUHK’s partner institutions across the world through a variety of fun, informative and interactive activities. With the support of CUHK academics, the virtual Master Class Series was held during the last two months on three interesting topics that were very much relevant to the pandemic. They included:
- The Reality of Online Dating (22 April): Hosted by Prof. Sam Chan, School of Journalism and Communication
- Daily Care through Chinese Medicine (6 May): Hosted by Dr. Eun-hae Ha, School of Chinese Medicine
- Nutritional Chinese Cooking Class (13 May): Hosted by Ms. Daisy Sin, Centre for Nutritional Studies
With a fresh appeal to the global audience, the topics were chosen to showcase CUHK’s areas of expertise as well as the local and Chinese culture. Interactive elements intertwined the hour-long classes to facilitate meaningful exchanges between the host and the audience. For example, the audience was invited to follow the host’s instructions to practise acupressure at the Chinese medicine class, and the recipe was shared with the attendees beforehand so that they could prepare the ingredients and cook with the host during the nutritional cooking class.
Each of the Master Classes attracted more than 100 registrations and feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. The CUHK Master Class Series serves well to promote cross-cultural interactions by engaging students and partners globally.
Prof. Sam Chan provides insights on how the virtual world has shaped love-finding in recent years.
The audience follows Dr. Eun-hae Ha’s instructions to try out acupoint self-massage and learn how to brew a pot of healthy herbal tea.
Attendees join the Nutritional Chinese Cooking Class to prepare two delicious and healthy dishes.
