An exotic ‘Mexperience’

Mexico is an amazing country brimmed with an interesting culture to discover and gorgeous sights to behold. Yun Sum Wong, a Year 3 Data Science and Policy Studies student, had a fruitful and wonderful exchange experience during the second semester at Tecnologico de Monterrey in Mexico.

‘Mexico is one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. I came across deers, peacocks and gooses on the campus. During the classes, professors were keen on interacting with students. We had some good academic discussion in all courses and even in the science classes. Unlike Hong Kong where people rarely talk to strangers, we can feel free to talk to anyone in the library and make friends easily!’

Yun Sum was also amazed by the Mexican cuisine. ‘A wide range of tacos are served with lime and different chili sauces everywhere in Mexico. Besides, you will find spicy food in every Mexican’s dining table.’ He was also warmly surprised by the very friendly nature of Mexicans. To his delight, he befriended a local Mexican, Enrique, and they have become best buddies.

There are different cultural heritages to explore, ranging from pyramids, hiking spots to museums and churches. Yun Sum enjoyed hiking with a group of friends to allow him to learn more about the Mexican culture. He shared some tips, ‘Bear in mind to bring three liters of cold water with you in order to reach the top of Pico Norte in Monterrey!’
