Celebrating distinguished achievements
CUHK researchers receive prestigious honours in recognition of their research excellence.
It has been a stellar season for CUHK with numerous recognitions received by its members, exemplifying its leading position in global higher education.
Prof. Dennis Lo of CU Medicine has been honoured with the Lasker Award, the prestigious America’s top biomedical science prize, for his revolutionary non-invasive prenatal fetal DNA-based tests which have transformed literally millions of lives around the world.
A research team led by Prof. Pheng Ann Heng of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering has secured a grant of more than HK$50 million (US$6.4 million) under the Theme-based Research Scheme of the Hong Kong Research Grants Council (RGC) to establish a world-leading Institute of Medical Intelligence and Extended Reality, which is set to revolutionise artificial intelligence and extended reality technology in healthcare solutions.
Besides, five scholars from CUHK received awards under the 2022-23 RGC Senior Research Fellow Scheme and Research Fellow Scheme in recognition of their distinguished research achievements. They are Prof. Bryan Mercurio of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Renbao Liu of the Department of Physics, Prof. Raymond Yeung of the Department of Information Engineering, Prof. Kathy Lui of the Department of Chemical Pathology, and Prof. Yi-chun Lu of the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering.
