Distinguished scholars win international acclaim
A number of distinguished CUHK researchers have recently received prestigious honours in recognition of their exceptional work.

Recently, CUHK scholars from a wide array of disciplines have received international recognitions for their academic and scientific achievements. In addition, the University’s world-leading position in computer science is reaffirmed by the Best Global Universities Rankings of the US News and World Report 2022, being No. 10 worldwide and once again No. 1 in Hong Kong.
Ten professors named ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2021’
CUHK professors constantly demonstrate significant and broad influence in their fields through the publication of multiple highly-cited papers. Ten professors in Medicine, Science, Engineering and Social Sciences have been recently named on the ‘Highly Cited Researchers 2021’ by Clarivate Analytics. They are Prof. Henry Chan, Prof. Tony Mok, Prof. Joseph Sung, Prof. Vincent Wong, Prof. David Hui, Prof. Siew Chien Ng, Prof. Po Keung Wong, Prof. Jimmy Yu and Prof. Mei-Po Kwan.
Research honours in engineering, science and medicine
Prof. Rocky S. Tuan, Vice-Chancellor and President of CUHK, has been elected as an International Fellow of the 2021 Fellow Class (FTERM) of the Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine International Society, one of the most distinguished academic honours accorded in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. He is the first-ever Hong Kong scholar named a FTERM.
Prof. Dennis Lo, Prof. Allen Chan, and Prof. Rossa Chiu from the Faculty of Medicine have been named among the ‘Top 20 Translational Researchers of 2020’ by the world-renowned Nature Biotechnology. The trio are the only scholars from Hong Kong on the list, and it is also the fifth consecutive year for Prof. Lo to receive this honour.
Prof. Raymond Tong of the Department of Biomedical Engineering, the inventor of the exoskeleton robotic hand for stroke rehabilitation ‘Hand of Hope’, has been honoured with the ‘Global Ageing Influencers 2021’ award in recognition of his outstanding achievements in rehabilitation innovations, programmes and services that advance the standard of living for older adults on a global scale. Prof. Tong is the only winner from Hong Kong.
Prof. Xuhua He from the Department of Mathematics has received the 2022 AMS Chevalley Prize in Lie Theory by the American Mathematical Society (AMS) in recognition of his contribution to the advance of ‘Lie theory’. He is the first Hong Kong scholar to receive this award. Also from Mathematics, Prof. Jun Zou has been honoured as a Fellow of the 2022 Class by AMS in recognition of his significant contribution to the numerical methods and analyses of direct and inverse problems of partial differential equations.
