APRU Undergraduate Leaders’ Programme 2023
Leadership for Sustainable Cities Development
at The Chinese University of Hong Kong
Theme Themed ‘Leadership for Sustainable Cities Development’, the programme will bring together some 60 undergraduate students from APRU member universities, including CUHK, and empower them to become changemakers in pursuit of building sustainable, safe, resilient, and inclusive cities in response to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The programme will encompass a wide array of sub-themes, including environmental, social and governance; waste and resource management; carbon neutrality and energy; green transport; as well as smart, green and resilient communities.

Students will learn to apply design thinking principles to develop innovative and human-centred solutions to complex issues of sustainability using case studies from Hong Kong and around the world.

Eligibility
  • Full-time CUHK undergraduate students, except final year students in 2022–23, from all disciplines are welcome.
  • Have a good command of English.
  • Priority will be given to students who demonstrate strong academic and leadership record, commitment to promoting sustainability, and potential contribution to future action on sustainable cities development.
Activities
  • Lectures and workshops by academics, industry experts and NGO leaders
  • Field trips to learn about the sustainability efforts in Hong Kong
  • Group projects to design innovative solutions to complex issues of sustainability in the Pacific Rim
  • Social activities to make friends with peers from around the world
Benefits and Roles of CUHK Participants
  • The programme fee of HK$4,350 will be waived.
  • Most meals and on-campus accommodation will be provided during the programme.
  • A remuneration of HK$3,000 will be offered to each CUHK student who will also serve as an ambassador of CUHK. The responsibilities of a student ambassador include:
    • Attend a mandatory briefing session prior to the programme.
    • Prepare orientation packages.
    • Facilitate check-in and check-out of overseas participants.
    • Lead campus tours and ice-breaking activities.
    • Provide support for cultural and social activities and introduce the local culture to overseas participants.
    • Other ad-hoc activities
  • A deposit of HK$500 has to be made, which will be refunded upon successful completion of the programme.
Application
  • Interested students should submit an online application with the latest CUHK transcript by 31 March 2023 (Friday).
  • Application result will be announced in April.
