Dear students,
The past few months have been very challenging for many people in Hong Kong and around the world. Let’s take a moment to pause and reflect: How have I been? How am I doing?
As a teacher and counsellor educator, I often notice that my trainees are quite good at caring for their students and clients. They ask good questions to get essential information, express empathy in a caring way, and are genuinely interested in the well-being of the people they serve. On the other hand, they have more difficulty talking about themselves and paying attention to their own needs. Perhaps it is more satisfying to solve problems for others, and derive meaning and fulfillment out of it, than to face personal pains head on.
This is an area of growth for me, and perhaps for you as well. So, how have you been? How are you doing?
As Term 2 of 2021/22 comes to an end, I hope you are in good health and spirit. If you are not, what are some things that you have enjoyed doing in the past that you can pick up again? Are there people whom you have lost touch and can potentially reconnect with? How can we take better care of our mind and body?
Best wishes for your exams and final assignments. And have a safe and fruitful summer!
