Wildfire Simulation
One of the global crises we are facing is that fast urbanization and land development are pounding at the ecological system. Serious problems have been seen in many coastal economic development zones in China. Hong Kong is a densely populated city with complicated land use patterns, facility and transportation management systems. However, the fast land development in Hong Kong has put great pressure on Hong Kong's ecology system. Systematic planning for long-term development for preventing the ecological disasters, like wildfires, has not been conducted. It is necessary to build up an information system that integrates multi-source data in order to provide far-sighted planning and support to an efficient management for Hong Kong Country Park System (HKCPS).
GIS have been widely applied in spatial decision-making supporting for its down-to-earth spatial analysis tools and robust spatial database maintain. A web-based GIS will be set up that allows the people concerned to produce a better plan for the CPS via a new communication channel. Wildfire in the CPS will be chosen as case study.
The final products of this research project aims to build up a modeling or planning support environment on the network, based on Client/Server architecture. Generally, this system will consist of GIS database, application server, and a WWW server. New technology as VRML and a client user can access the system on Internet.
