An endowment of HK$100,000 was donated by Christian Director Tang Hon Kwan and Principal Chan Yau Kwong Mother and Daughter Memorial Education Fund for the captioned scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students in sociology to conduct their thesis research on topics related to education issues in Hong Kong or other Chinese societies. The annual interest generated from the endowment will be used to finance one award of about HK$3,500 every year.

In memory of his beloved mother Mrs. Lee Wong Lai Lin, Mr. Lee Tung Kiu Tony, an alumnus of the Department of Sociology, CUHK who graduated in 1983, donated an endowment of HK$100,000 for the establishment of the captioned scholarship to encourage undergraduate and postgraduate students in sociology to conduct their thesis research on family or gender issues in Hong Kong or other Chinese societies. The annual interest generated from the endowment will be used to finance one award of about HK$3,500 every year.

Every year, one scholarship in the amount of HK$5,000, will be awarded to a year 2 Sociology student who achieved excellent academic results in his/her year 1 study and in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) or The National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) in Mainland China.

An endowment of HK$110,000 was donated by Prof. Lee Pui Leung Rance, Emeritus Professor of Sociology at CUHK, for the captioned scholarship. This is to award Sociology undergraduate students who are able to write high-quality graduation theses. For each year, up to two awards, each with an amount of $1,500, will be offered to individual undergraduate students who have written outstanding graduation theses.

This scholarship, with an endowment of HK$111,000, was donated by Dr. Lau Yiu Chung Laurie and his wife, Mrs. Lau Lam Cheuk Man, in commemoration of Mrs. Lau Cheung Kwai Lan, the beloved mother of Dr. Lau. Strongly committed to nurturing young people in Hong Kong, Dr. and Mrs. Lau see sociology as a discipline that provides young people with powerful analytical tools for understanding society and forges their orientation to improve and serve the community in Hong Kong. This scholarship thus emphasizes the academic performance, humanistic sensitivity and social service of sociology students. The successful candidate should be a non-year 1 student majoring in sociology at undergraduate level. S/he should have obtained an average GPA of 3.0 or above in previous years, and has provided significant services to his/her fellow students and/or the community in Hong Kong at large. The annual interest generated from the endowment will be used to finance one scholarship of about HK$5,000 every year.

This award was established by a donation of US$25,000 by Mr. George T. Ching, brother-in-law of Professor S. L. Wong, former Chairman of the Sociology Department at Chung Chi College, in memory of his father, Mr. T. K. Cheng. The award will provide financial assistance to Chung Chi students from the Department of Sociology who are engaged in student exchange or service outside Hong Kong. There will be up to 2 awards each year, each with $7,800. The recipients should be Chung Chi undergraduate students of the Department of Sociology, having attained a GPA of not less than 3.0 in the previous term.

The award is established with a grant from UGC for matching the donation by Yan Wo Tong (International) Limited. The award aims to encourage undergraduate students of the Department of Sociology to participate in exchange programmes overseas or in mainland China organised by the Department, College, or the University. The award of the amount $5,000, will subsidize 1 local student participating in exchange programme.

This scholarship was established with donation of HK$21,657 by alumni of the Department, raised in the Sociology Alumni Home Coming Night co-organised by the Department and an enthusiastic alumni group namely “社會學會社” on 4 March 2017. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students of our Department to participate in internship programme organized by the Department, and to enhance occupational exposure of students. In each year, the total amount of the scholarships can be up to HK$4,000, which will subsidize up to 2 students joining the Department internship programme, with $2,000 for each student. Recipients of the award will be selected on the basis of both internship performance and financial needs.

The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students of our Department to participate in internship programme organized by the Department, enhance the occupational exposure of students and use sociological perspectives to analyse the commercial/working environment. In each year, a scholarship in the amount of HK$5,000 will be awarded to a student joining the Department internship programme and selected by the donor.

The award was jointly established by The Department of Sociology and Chung Chi College at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, in honor of Professor Wong Shou Lam, who had served and led the Department of Sociology at Chung Chi College from 1957 until his retirement in 1977. The award was donated by Professor and Mrs. Rance P.L. Lee, which has subsequently attracted a matching grant of $300,000 from the University Grants Council to the College and the University. With a deep affection towards his mother country, Professor Wong was among the first faculty members in Chung Chi in the early 70’s to encourage staff and students to learn more about China by organizing study tours and service activities. The aim of the award is to encourage students in the Department of Sociology at Chung Chi College to follow Professor S.L. Wong’s footsteps and launch social service or social research projects in the mainland. Each year the total amount of award can be up to $12,000, divided by up to 3 recipients, who should be full-time Chung Chi College students in the Department of Sociology. In the case of a team project, the leader should be a Chung Chi student.

Mr. Chan Chun Fai, President of the Space Bus Limited, donated HK$75,000 for the establishment of the award. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students of our Department to participate in internship programme organized by the Department, and to enhance occupational exposure of students. In each year, the total amount of the awards can be up to HK$4,000, which will subsidize up to 2 students joining the Department internship programme, with $2,000 for each student. Recipients of the award will be selected on the basis of both internship performance and financial needs.

The Yan Wo Tong (International) Limited (仁和堂(國際)有限公司) donated HK$100,000 for the establishment of the scholarship. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students of our Department to participate in the Distinguished Overseas Internship Programme of the Department, which provide undergraduate students opportunities to undertake an internship supervised by distinguished professors at renowned overseas universities.
In each year, the total amount of the award can be up to HK$20,000, which will subsidize up to 1 student joining the Distinguished Overseas Internship Programme.

The scholarship was established with the donation of HKD $200,000 by Ms. Wong Ying Chi Alta (黃英姿), a Sociology alumna of the College of Class 1969, and the grant of HKD $100,000 from UGC for matching the donation, in memory of Ms. Yu Lai Yung, Ms. Wong’s beloved mother. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage undergraduate students of our Department to participate in the Distinguished Overseas Internship Programme of the Department, which provide undergraduate students opportunities to undertake an internship supervised by distinguished professors at renowned overseas universities. In each year, the total amount of the award can be up to HK$40,000, which will subsidize up to 1 Chung Chi College undergraduate student and 1 local undergraduate student joining the Distinguished Overseas Internship Programme.
