Myles Ng Wins Department Award for his Economics Paper
2022年9月15日
Upperclassman Myles Ng has received a bronze medal for his paper titled "Wage, Job Satisfaction, and Loan Source. What Factors Influence the Financial Conditions of Hong Kong’s Migrant Domestic Workers?”, written in Spring 2022. This commendation was granted at the Economics department’s 2021-22 Excellent Undergraduate Paper Awards. His supervisor for the paper was Dr. Vinci Chow.
Myles was praised within the department for submitting the first such paper to focus on a very specific demographic group. Myles told us about how he was drawn to this topic:
“Having grown up in the Philippines, I've always been pretty engaged with the migrant domestic worker (MDW) community in Hong Kong. I initially volunteered and interned at HELP for Domestic Workers at the onset of COVID-19 and subsequently launched HelpBridge, a social impact startup that offers a free mobile app information sharing platform for MDWs. (supported by the CUHK entrepreneurship centre back in 2020). Following on these experiences, I decided to write an econometric research paper for one of my classes (ECON 2901 A Guided Study in Current Economic Problems 1) about MDW financial conditions”. -Myles Ng
Congratulations Myles!
