Admission Scholarships

The College provides a full range of scholarships, bursaries, loans and special prizes to award students and teams with outstanding performance, and support students with financial needs. The scholarships, bursaries and loans provided in 2021/22 are approximately 2 million in total. Special scholarships are available for students who have outstanding performance in green education, leadership, social services, sports and music, and caring activities.

There are 38 admission scholarship awards (range from $5,000 to full tuition for 1 year-study) worth over $1 million to be offered in 2021/22. For details, please click on to expand each of the following sections.

List of Academic Admission Scholarships

The LEE’s family from Dr. LEE Woo Sing, College Patron of our College, generously donated HK$200,000 to the College for the establishment of admission scholarships and non-admission scholarships with effect from the academic year 2017/18.  HK$50,000 from the new donation is allocated for the establishment of Victoria Lee Admission Scholarship to support newly admitted local students. Regulations governing the award of the scholarships are detailed below,

Number and Value

Each recipient will be awarded HK$10,000.  There will be 5 awards of scholarships with total amount of HK$50,000 each year.

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should:

  • Should be full-time local students admitted to any full-time undergraduate program;
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation;
  • Have excellent academic results in secondary school and Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education or any other public examinations accepted by Office of Admissions and Financial Aid of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; and,
  • Have outstanding performance in music, green education and social services and other talents with good track record

Administrative Procedures

  • The Scholarship is open for application.  All applications will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration and nomination;
  • The awardees may need to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK; and,
  • The Scholarship will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

Lee Woo Sing College has set up an admission scholarships to award to local new students who are having excellent academic performance. 

 

Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

Name of the Scholarship

The Scholarship will be named “Academic Excellence Admission Scholarships” and in Chinese 「卓越學業成績入學獎學金」.

 

Number and Value of Scholarship

 

Full Scholarship

There will be 1 award of non-renewable full scholarship.  The scholarship will cover the annual tuition fee of HK$42,100. 

 

Half Scholarship

There will be 3 awards of non-renewable half scholarship.  The scholarship will cover half of the annual tuition fee, i.e. HK$21,050. 

 

Selection Criteria

 

To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should:

  • be full-time local students admitted to any full-time undergraduate programme;
  • possess outstanding academic results at entrance; and
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College as the first choice in the college affiliation

Administrative Procedures

  • College may nominate suitable candidates to attend selection interview based on the above selection criteria;
  • Successful candidates will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration and endorsement;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate;;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK; and
  • The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

Lee Woo Sing College has set up admission scholarship to award non-local undergraduates who are from the member countries of ASEAN with outstanding academic results. Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

Name of the Award

The Scholarship will be named “ASEAN Countries Admission Scholarship” and in Chinese「東盟國家入學獎學金 」

 

Number and Value of Scholarship

There will be two non-renewable scholarships of HK$20,000 each to be awarded per annum. The total amount is HK$120,000 (from 2021/22-2023/24, consecutive three years).

 

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should

  • Be a full-time Year 1 non-local undergraduate from the member countries of ASEAN including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam;
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation; and,
  • Have excellent academic results at entrance such as public examinations accepted by Office of Admissions and Financial Aid of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Administrative Procedures

  • The Scholarship is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates based on the above selection criteria;
  • All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate; and,
  • The Scholarship will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

The scholarship aims to give recognition to local students who have excellent academic result and are award recipients of non-academic admission scholarship

 

Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

1. Name of the Award

The Award will be named “Academic+ Admission Scholarships” and in Chinese 「優異入學成績嘉許獎學金」.

 

2. Number and Value of Scholarship

 

At the same sitting of DSE or IB examination:

Students who have three 5** result (DSE) / three subjects with 7 marks (IB)- $3,000

Students who have four 5** result (DSE) / four subjects with 7 marks (IB) – $5,000

Students who have five 5** or above (DSE) / five or above subjects with 7 marks (IB) – $10,000

There is no annual quota.

 

3. Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates should

  • Be a local full-time Year 1 undergraduate student with excellent admission result;
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation;
  • Be an award recipient of any one of the non-academic admission scholarships

4. Administrative Procedures

  • The Award is given once the candidates fulfill the criteria listed at (2) and (3);
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate;;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK; and
  • The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

List of Non-academic Admission Scholarships

Dr. Ti-Hua KOO and Mrs. Dorothy KOO has set up admission scholarship to award local undergraduates. Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:


Name of the Award
The Scholarship will be named “Ti Hua KOO and Dorothy VEE KOO Admission Scholarship for local students” and in Chinese「顧鐵華費肇芬伉儷本地生入學獎學金 」

Number and Value:
There will be 12 non-renewable scholarships of which 6 awards of full-tuition (HK$42,100) and 6 awards of half-tuition (HK$21,050) to be awarded per annum. The total amount is HK$378,900 per annum.

Selection Criteria:
To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should
  • Be full-time Year 1 local undergraduates.
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation,
  • Have serving community mindset and some record of community service experience,
  • Have acceptable academic result at entrance such as 25 marks or above in the best 5 subjects at Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education or 34 marks or above in International Baccalaureate, and
  • Come from financially disadvantaged background

  • The Scholarship is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates based on the above selection criteria;
  • All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate; and
  • The Scholarship will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.
Dr. Ti-Hua KOO and Mrs. Dorothy KOO has set up admission scholarship to award non-local undergraduates who are admitted from Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau. Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

Name of the Award
The Scholarship will be named “Ti Hua KOO and Dorothy VEE KOO Admission Scholarship for students from Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau” and in Chinese「顧鐵華費肇芬伉儷入學獎學金 – 中國大陸、台灣及澳門地區的新生」

Number and Value:
There will be five non-renewable scholarships of HK$40,000 each to be awarded per annum. The total amount is HK$200,000 per annum.

Selection Criteria:
To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should
  • Be a full-time Year 1 non-local undergraduate from Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau.
  • Commit to be affiliated to Lee Woo Sing College and choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation,
  • Have serving community mindset and some community service experience.
  • Have an acceptable academic result,
  • Come from financially disadvantaged background
Administrative Procedures
  • Candidates are nominated by Office of Admissions and Financial Aid (OAFA)
  • All nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate; and
  • The Scholarship will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

This award was donated by ECA Education with effect from academic year 2019-2020. It aims to give recognition to student athletes who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in sports and to provide financial support to their studies at the University whilst excelling in their specialized sports.

 

Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

Name of the Award

The Award will be named “ECA Education Outstanding Athlete Admission Scholarship”and in Chinese 「ECA Education傑出運動員入學獎學金」.

 

Number and Value of Scholarship

There will be 2 awards of HK$12,500 each.

 

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates should

  • Be a local full-time Year 1 undergraduate student;

  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation;

  • Have obtained outstanding achievements in territory-wide level or international sport events

  • Have sport talent that can contribute to the College sport team or sport activities

     

Administrative Procedures

  • The Award is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates  based on the above selection criteria; 

  • All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration and nomination;

  • The award recipients must attend award presentation ceremony or they will lose the eligibility for the award;

  • The award recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK; and,

  • The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

Dr. Ti-Hua KOO and Mrs. Dorothy KOO has set up an admission scholarship to give recognition to undergraduates who have demonstrated achievements or talent in non-academic areas. Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below.

1. Name of the Award
The Scholarship will be named “Ti Hua KOO and Dorothy VEE KOO Outstanding Talent Admission Scholarship” and in Chinese 「顧鐵華費肇芬伉儷傑出才藝入學獎學金」

2. Number and Value of Scholarship
There will be four non-renewable scholarships, covering the first year half tuition fee (HK$21,050), to be awarded each year. It will be launched form 2021/22 until 2024/25.

3. Selection Criteria
To be eligible for the Scholarship, candidates should
– Be a full-time Year 1 undergraduate student from the Mainland, Taiwan, Hong Kong or Macau;
– Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation; and
– Demonstrated outstanding performance or received recognized award in any special talents in the following areas:
a) Chinese opera, music, dance and performing arts;
b) Culture, painting, calligraphy and visual arts;
c) Sports, games and physical education skills; and
d) Science and technology innovation

4. Administrative Procedures
– The Scholarship is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates based on the above selection criteria;
– All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration;
– The recipients have to introduce his/her special talent to college students via college events/ assemblies;
– The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK;
– The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony, unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate; and
– The Scholarship will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

The scholarship aims to give recognition to students who have demonstrated outstanding achievements and contributions in green living and environmental protection.  

Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

Name of the Award

The Award will be named “Green Pioneer Admission Scholarship” and in Chinese 「卓越環保先鋒入學獎學金」.

 

Number and Value of Scholarship

There will be 2 awards of HK$5,000 each.

 

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates should

  • Be a local full-time Year 1 undergraduate student;
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation;
  • Have solid experience in organizing green events/ promotions or being a volunteer in non-government green groups/ organizations.
  • Enthusiastic in green living and can contribute in the college green life ambassador programme.

Administrative Procedures

  • The Award is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates based on the above selection criteria; 
  • All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration and nomination;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate;;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK;
  • The scholarship recipients have to be committed in Green life Ambassador programme as a team leader; and,
  • The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

The scholarship aims to give recognition to students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership skill.

 

Regulations governing the award of the scholarship are detailed below:

 

Name of the Award

The Award will be named “Outstanding Student Leaders Admission Scholarship” and in Chinese 「卓越學生領袖入學獎學金」.

 

Number and Value of Scholarship

There will be 2 awards of HK$5,000 each.

 

Selection Criteria

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates should

  • Be a local full-time Year 1 undergraduate student;
  • Choose Lee Woo Sing College to be the first choice in College affiliation;
  • Be the executive committee member or chairperson of the student union, or the house leader or demonstrate significant leadership role during the secondary study.

Administrative Procedures

  • The Award is open for application or the College may nominate suitable candidates based on the above selection criteria; 
  • All applications and nominations will be sent to the Scholarships and Bursaries Committee of the College for consideration and nomination;
  • The scholarship recipients must attend the scholarship presentation ceremony unless under some unforeseeable or uncontrollable circumstances approved by the College, or else the scholarship will be given to the first alternate;;
  • The scholarship recipients may be required to meet with the donor to share their learning experiences at CUHK; and
  • The Award will be administered by the College Office of Lee Woo Sing College in accordance with the above regulations.

Application Procedures

  • The College will make announcement to students when the application of admission scholarship is open. 
  • Please provide all necessary documents together with your applications.
  • Nomination by Faculty or College members is also accepted. If the application is by nomination, a support letter from Faculty or College member has to be included in the set of the supporting documents. You can download the “Support Letter” here.
