IE student NG Ka Lok won the Bronze Award of the ASM Technology Competition

We were delighted to know that Mr. NG Ka Lok, MIE graduate 2018 and currently IE MPhil student, won the Bronze Award of the ASM Technology Competition with his project titled "A Secure Deep Neural Network framework with Trusted Processor and GPU". The competition invited 10 competing teams from 5 local universities.

Thanks to our Faculty Scholarship Committee for shortlisting the projects from CUHK. The project is supervised by Prof. Sherman S. M. Chow.

Both Mr. Ng and Prof. Chow are invited to join a fully sponsored trip to Munich, Germany. Mr. Ng also received a scholarship award of $20,000.

During the 7 days trip in December 2018, together with 2 other winning teams and staffs from ASM Technology Hong Kong Ltd., Mr. Ng visited production lines and research laboratories of several world-leading companies, including ASM SMT (Assembly System), BMK Group (Final Assembly), Audi (Automobile), Continental AG (Automotive), KUKA, and Festo (Industrial Robot).

The companies generously showcased their latest research accomplishment and shared their experience on implementing Industry 4.0 as promoted by the German government, for example, using the Internet of Things (IoT) and machine learning techniques for smart warehouses.

The trip also visits Munich University of Applied Sciences. Several startup teams in the school's startup incubators shared the challenges they face in Germany.

Mr. Ng would like to express his gratitude to the ASM teams for the inspiring experience.
