Zhao Mengmeng, currently a PhD student in Communication at CUHK, was chosen as one of the four translators of Steve Jobs, the authorized biography of the late IT legend, after a rigorous selection procedure.
Coming from Beijing, the 27-year old student passed the three written tests given by the publisher, in which 2,000 to 3,000 words were extracted from the biography for translation each time.
Mengmeng was then given the assignment in August 2011 and completed her portion of the translation within a month. The entire process was kept under wraps and she was not allowed to divulge her part in the project until the book came onto the market.
As an admirer of Steve Jobs and an ardent supporter of his products, Mengmeng was grateful for the opportunity of being so close to the iconic figure through the pages of the biography. It was most regrettable that, only six days after the completion of the entire translation project, Steve Jobs left this world.
